Assistant Cost Manager - Aviation Infrastructure (Dubai)

Job Description

The Assistant Cost Manager will be integrated into Mace's cost management team, working closely with senior managers, engineers, and clients. The role will be central to various stages of the project lifecycle, from initial estimation and budgeting, through monitoring and control during execution, to final project close-out.

Key responsibilities are expected to include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of preliminary and detailed cost estimates for aviation infrastructure projects (e.g., airports, control towers, terminals, maintenance facilities, runways).
  • Supporting the budgeting and cost control process throughout the project duration.
  • Recording and analyzing actual cost data against approved budgets.
  • Assisting in the preparation of periodic cost reports for clients and senior management.
  • Participating in quantity surveying and reviewing tender and contract documents.
  • Collaborating with design, procurement, and delivery teams to ensure adherence to financial targets.
  • Contributing to the management of variations and changes in scope, assessing their financial impact.
  • Utilizing specialized cost management and project monitoring software.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be a successful candidate for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

Academic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Architecture), Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • A recognized professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIOB, PMP) will be a significant advantage.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in cost management or quantity surveying, preferably on major infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience in aviation sector projects or complex construction projects is a strong competitive advantage.
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment or with main contractors.
  • Good knowledge of construction markets and costs in the Gulf region, specifically the UAE.

Personal and Technical Skills:

  • Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken).
  • Strong analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel) and cost management software such as CostX or similar.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good understanding of contracting procedures and common contract forms in the region (e.g., FIDIC).
