Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The Captain will serve as the on-site leader and direct supervisor, ensuring seamless and professional service operations. Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and Supervising the Service Team: Directly supervising waitstaff and service personnel at the assigned location (restaurant, hotel, private event, or corporate catering site). This involves task allocation, ensuring the team is fully staffed and in proper professional attire, and providing necessary briefings before and after service.
- Ensuring Service Quality and Standards: Guaranteeing the team adheres to the highest customer service standards and company-specific protocols. Monitoring the quality of food and beverage presentation, table setups, and various service stages to deliver an exceptional guest or client experience.
- Communication and Coordination: Acting as the primary liaison between the service staff and management (e.g., Restaurant Manager or Catering Supervisor), as well as between the kitchen and the service floor. Handling special guest requests and feedback, and communicating important notes between departments.
- Managing Daily Operations: Assisting with daily inventory checks of consumables, ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the work area, and reporting any equipment malfunctions or supply shortages.
- Problem-Solving: Addressing any guest complaints or emergent situations promptly and diplomatically, making appropriate decisions within authorized limits to maintain client satisfaction and the company's reputation.
- Compliance with Safety and Hygiene: Ensuring the team follows all relevant food health and safety regulations (e.g., HACCP) in force in Bahrain, as well as occupational safety standards at the work site.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
To be a suitable candidate for this leadership role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Work Experience: Proven previous experience of at least 3 to 5 years in the hospitality or catering service industry, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role (Captain, Head Waiter, Team Supervisor).
- Leadership and Personal Skills: Strong ability to lead and motivate a team, with initiative and a sense of responsibility. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Arabic and English).
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of food and beverage service protocols and sequences (Fine Dining or Banquet Service). Good knowledge of food health and safety standards.
- Organizational Skills: High ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work long hours, on weekends and holidays, and sometimes under pressure to meet the demands of large-scale events.
