The English Playgroup & Primary Schools in Kuwait is actively recruiting for the position of Career Guidance Counselor & University Advisor. Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a cornerstone in supporting students through critical stages of their education, particularly in the upper secondary grades. The core responsibilities of this role include:

  • Student Assessment: Conducting individual and group sessions with students to assess their academic interests, skills, values, and future career goals.
  • Academic Planning: Assisting students in developing academic plans that align with their university and career objectives, including appropriate course and activity selection.
  • University Counseling: Providing comprehensive guidance on the university application process for both local and international institutions. This includes:
    • Researching suitable universities and programs.
    • Understanding admission requirements and deadlines.
    • Advising on and reviewing personal statements and recommendation letters.
    • Preparing students for university admission interviews.
  • Career Guidance: Organizing workshops and informational sessions on various professions, inviting guest speakers from different sectors, and utilizing career assessment tools to help students explore their options.
  • Parental Support: Holding meetings and providing resources for parents to explain the guidance process, answer their queries, and involve them in decision-making.
  • Research & Development: Staying updated on admission requirements for local and global universities, labor market trends, and available scholarships and funding opportunities.
  • Collaboration with Faculty: Working closely with teachers and administration to develop comprehensive student support programs and ensure student needs are met.

Qualifications & Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Educational Counseling, Psychology, Education, or Human Resources. A Master's degree is a strong advantage.
  • Experience: Proven professional experience of 3-5 years in career guidance or university counseling, preferably within an international or private school environment.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of higher education systems globally and university admission requirements (particularly for the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and local Gulf universities).
  • Personal Skills:
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills in both Arabic and English (written and spoken).
    • Ability to empathize, listen actively, and build trusting relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Flexibility and the capacity to manage time and workload during peak periods (university application season).
  • Professional Certification: Professional certifications in counseling or guidance (e.g., Certified Career Counselor) are a significant competitive advantage.
