Contract NOC L2 Shift Engineer – RAN / Transport & IP / Core (EPC & 5GC)
StellarIT Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Contract NOC L2 Shift Engineer to join their Network Operations Center team in Muscat, Oman. This is a critical role for a professional specializing in the monitoring, management, and maintenance of core telecommunications network infrastructure, with a focus on modern 4G and 5G technologies.
Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the 24/7 shift-based NOC team, ensuring the continuous availability and performance of vital network services. Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring & Response: Proactively monitor the performance and health of RAN (Radio Access Network), Transport, IP, and Core (EPC for 4G & 5GC for 5G) networks using specialized tools and software platforms.
- Incident & Ticket Management: Receive, analyze, and troubleshoot incidents and customer service tickets escalated from the Level 1 (L1) support team. Execute diagnostic and restorative actions following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Escalation & Reporting: Escalate complex incidents that require deeper expertise to Level 3 (L3) engineering or specialist teams, ensuring comprehensive documentation of all steps taken and diagnostics performed.
- Implementation & Change: Execute routine work orders and implement planned changes on network elements under strict supervision and in accordance with approved change management processes.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of incidents, actions taken, and resolutions. Contribute to the creation of periodic network performance and incident reports.
- Compliance: Ensure all activities adhere to company standards, industry best practices, and agreed-upon Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this contract position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in telecommunications network operations, with prior hands-on experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC) or similar environment.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep practical knowledge in one or more of the following domains: RAN networks (2G/3G/4G/5G), Transport networks (Microwave, Fiber, MW), IP networks (IP/MPLS), Mobile Core networks (EPC and/or 5GC).
- Strong understanding of core networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLAN, OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG) and IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms like ServiceNow.
- Soft Skills: Ability to work under pressure in a shift-based environment (morning/evening/night shifts). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and documentation abilities. Effective team player.
- Preferred Qualifications: Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, NRS II, or vendor-specific certifications from major telecom equipment providers (e.g., Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia) are a significant advantage.
