Job Description

The Design Engineer will be responsible for a range of critical technical and engineering tasks within a shipyard and marine repair setting. Reporting to senior engineers, the role involves close collaboration with production, planning, and procurement departments to ensure project accuracy and efficiency.

Key expected responsibilities include:

  • Developing and designing detailed engineering drawings and plans (mechanical, structural, piping, electrical) for ship repair and newbuilding projects.
  • Utilizing advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, and potentially Building Information Modeling (BIM) or industry-specific marine design software.
  • Preparing material and equipment specifications for various projects.
  • Reviewing and analyzing client or subcontractor drawings, proposing technical modifications or improvements.
  • Providing on-the-ground technical support to the production and workshop teams during the execution phase, troubleshooting any design-related issues.
  • Ensuring all designs comply with relevant international standards and maritime safety regulations (e.g., from global maritime classification societies).
  • Contributing to the preparation of technical reports and internal presentations.

Requirements and Qualifications

Asyad Drydock is looking for candidates with a passion for engineering and meticulous attention to detail, possessing the following qualifications:

Academic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering field, such as: Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Civil (Structural) Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
  • A postgraduate degree or professional certifications in marine design are preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Proven practical experience of at least 3 to 5 years in engineering design, preferably within the shipbuilding, shipyard, marine repair, or similar heavy industries.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AutoCAD 2D & 3D software. Experience with specialized software like AVEVA Marine or ShipConstructor is a significant competitive advantage.

Personal and Technical Skills:

  • Excellent command of the English language in reading and writing (the technical working language).
  • Strong knowledge of international marine design and safety standards.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Keen attention to detail and precision in preparing drawings and specifications.
