As part of its continuous expansion and commitment to excellence, the company is seeking a qualified Foreman – Welder to contribute to the success of its major projects.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will hold a critical leadership position within the production or workshop team. The core responsibility will be the direct supervision of welding operations and a team of workers to ensure work is executed according to the highest standards of quality, safety, and schedule. Detailed duties include:

  • Supervision & Planning: Lead and direct a team of welders and fitters. Plan and allocate daily tasks to team members to achieve required operational efficiency.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all welding and cutting works strictly adhere to design technical specifications, approved welding codes (e.g., AWS, ASME), and client requirements. Conduct preliminary checks on fit-ups, root passes, and fill passes.
  • Safety Compliance: Champion and enforce a strict safety culture on the worksite. Ensure all team members comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and work in accordance with applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the optimal use of materials (rods, wires, gases) and equipment (welding machines, cutting gear). Assist in inventory control and report any needs or breakdowns.
  • Training & Development: Provide hands-on guidance and training to the work team to improve their welding skills and techniques.
  • Coordination & Reporting: Work closely with engineers and supervisors from other departments (e.g., Engineering, Planning, Quality). Prepare daily reports on work progress, productivity, and any incidents or potential hazards.

Qualifications & Essential Requirements

To be eligible for this leadership role in a demanding industrial environment, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education & Experience: A diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, or a related field. A minimum of 8 to 10 years of practical welding experience in the shipbuilding/ship repair industry or similar heavy industrial environments (e.g., steel fabrication, oil & gas). This experience must include at least 3 years in a supervisory role (Foreman or Team Leader).
  • Technical Skills: Deep proficiency in various welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) and cutting. Strong knowledge of reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding procedure specifications (WPS/PQR). Excellent understanding of quality control standards and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Personal Skills & Leadership Abilities:
    • Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of motivating and managing a diverse team.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written).
    • Problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
    • Discipline, precision, and a strong attention to detail.
    • Physical fitness to work in a shipyard environment (may involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions).
