GIS Developer at Oman Investment Authority in Muscat

Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The selected developer will be integrated into a specialized technical team and will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Geographic Information Systems and applications. The core responsibilities for this role are expected to include:
- Developing Custom GIS Solutions: Designing and programming GIS applications and systems that meet the analytical and operational needs of the Authority and its affiliated projects.
- Spatial Data Management: Integrating and managing geographic databases (Geodatabases), ensuring their accuracy and accessibility.
- Spatial Data Analysis: Performing advanced spatial data analyses to support investment decision-making and strategic planning processes.
- API Development: Creating and maintaining Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to connect GIS systems with other internal enterprise systems.
- Technical Collaboration: Working closely with data analysts, strategic planners, and the IT team to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Project Documentation: Preparing comprehensive technical documentation for developed systems and applications.
Qualifications and Core Requirements
To be a successful candidate for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics, or a similar technical discipline.
- Professional Experience: Proven hands-on experience of 3-5 years in GIS Development.
- Advanced Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in a programming language such as Python (with libraries like ArcPy, GeoPandas) or JavaScript (with frameworks like Leaflet, OpenLayers).
- Practical experience with GIS platforms like the ArcGIS Platform (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise) and/or open-source solutions like QGIS.
- Solid knowledge of relational and spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Understanding of User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) design principles for web and mobile applications.
- Personal Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective time management. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
