Job Description and Responsibilities
The newly appointed HSE Manager will be responsible for leading, developing, and implementing a comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environment strategy across the company. He/She will be the primary authority for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors, and for maintaining full compliance with relevant local and international laws and regulations, such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, reviewing, and updating the company's HSE policies, procedures, and management systems.
- Fostering a strong safety culture within the organization through continuous awareness, training, and incentive programs.
- Conducting regular audits and inspections of sites and projects to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Investigating incidents, accidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive action plans.
- Preparing periodic HSE performance reports for senior management, including statistics and trend analysis.
- Managing the HSE team and providing them with technical guidance and mentorship.
- Assessing occupational and environmental risks and developing emergency response and contingency plans.
- Liaising with government regulatory bodies (such as the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi Police, and environmental authorities) regarding HSE permits and approvals.
- Reviewing method statements and plans for new projects to ensure safety considerations are integrated from the design phase.
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for this leadership role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial) or in Environmental Science, or any safety-related field. A Master's degree or specialized professional certifications are a strong advantage.
- Professional Certifications: Possession of globally recognized HSE certifications such as the NEBOSH Diploma or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent. Knowledge of UAE HSE regulations is mandatory.
- Experience: A minimum of 8 to 12 years of practical experience in the HSE field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (Manager or Head of Department). Experience must be within high-risk sectors such as Construction, Oil & Gas, Energy, or Industrial Manufacturing.
- Skills: Team leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills (Arabic and English), strong analytical and decision-making abilities, and proficiency in computer applications for reporting and presentations.
- Personal Attributes: High integrity and credibility, ability to work under pressure, and strong persuasion skills to promote a safety culture across all functional levels.
