A leading and confidential company in Abu Dhabi is actively recruiting for the position of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer. This role presents a significant opportunity for dedicated professionals to join a dynamic work environment and play a direct part in upholding the highest standards of personnel safety, health, and environmental protection at a key worksite in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The appointed HSE Officer will be a cornerstone in the implementation and continuity of the Health, Safety, and Environment management system. Their core focus will be to ensure all operations and activities comply with local Emirate regulations, UAE federal laws, and the company's internal standards and global policies. They will report to an HSE Manager or Supervisor and be responsible for a designated area or site.

Key expected responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and Inspection: Conducting regular and surprise site inspections to identify potential HSE hazards, ensure correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and verify the safety of equipment and machinery.
  • Enforcement and Compliance: Ensuring all Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols are followed. Issuing correction notices for any non-compliance and following up on the implementation of corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Training and Awareness: Assisting in developing and delivering short awareness and training sessions for workers on basic safety topics, emergency procedures, and site-specific hazards.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Preparing detailed reports on incidents, near misses, safety statistics, and inspection findings. Maintaining accurate records for all HSE activities.
  • Emergency Management: Assisting in updating emergency response plans and participating in organizing and conducting emergency and evacuation drills.
  • Environmental Assessment: Monitoring practices related to waste management, emissions, and hazardous materials to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Qualifications and Essential Requirements

To be eligible for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or related) or a Higher Diploma in HSE or a relevant field.
  • Professional Certifications: Possession of internationally recognized HSE certifications such as the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) is considered a core and strong advantage. Other certifications like IOSH Managing Safely or advanced safety diplomas are a significant plus.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in a similar role (HSE Officer or Supervisor), preferably within sectors like Construction, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, or Utilities.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of UAE HSE laws and regulations (e.g., Abu Dhabi Municipality regulations, Civil Defence codes).
  • Personal Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in both Arabic and English.
    • Ability to command respect and authority to enforce safety rules.
    • Strong analytical skills for hazard identification and assessment.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
