Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The Hull Work Preparator will play a pivotal role within the repair and maintenance team, responsible for the detailed pre-planning and coordination of all activities related to vessel hull operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning & Preparation: Developing detailed work plans, method statements, and schedules for hull maintenance and repair tasks. This encompasses steelwork, blasting, painting, welding, and plate replacement operations.
  • Resource Coordination: Coordinating with production departments, warehouse, and subcontractors to secure necessary materials, equipment, and manpower. Ensuring tasks are executed according to plan, within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Quality & Safety Compliance: Guaranteeing all work is performed in strict accordance with precise technical specifications, class society rules (like ABS, DNV), and international quality standards. Enforcing rigorous Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols within the drydock environment.
  • Inspection & Reporting: Participating in hull surveys and inspections before and after job execution. Preparing accurate technical reports on work progress, status, and identifying any additional requirements or non-conformities.
  • Liaison & Communication: Acting as an effective communication link between project management and the execution teams on the ground, ensuring clear transmission of instructions and feedback.

Qualifications & Essential Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A diploma or technical qualification in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in a similar preparator/planner role within a shipbuilding or ship repair yard, with hands-on knowledge of steel hull operations.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of drydock operations, welding specifications (e.g., AWS, ABS), marine coating systems, and international safety standards (e.g., SOLAS). Proficiency in reading ship drawings and technical documents is crucial.
  • Personal Skills: Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills and effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential as it is the primary language of operation in this sector. Knowledge of Arabic will be a distinct advantage.
