HVAC Commissioning Specialist - Offshore - Qatar

A significant career opportunity is available to join major offshore projects in the State of Qatar for the position of HVAC Commissioning Specialist - Offshore. This role presents an excellent opportunity for experienced engineers and technicians in the field of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems to work in a dynamic and challenging environment within the vital energy sector of the Arabian Gulf.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be stationed at an offshore work site and will be primarily responsible for the commissioning, testing, and final handover of complex HVAC and ventilation systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and Supervision: Developing detailed commissioning and testing plans for HVAC systems in accordance with international technical standards (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA) and specific project requirements.
  • Testing and Commissioning: Leading and executing a series of pre-commissioning and initial startup tests for HVAC systems, including pressure tests, airflow measurements, temperature and humidity control tests, and air balancing.
  • Quality and Safety Assurance: Ensuring all systems and equipment comply with stringent quality standards and applicable marine and industrial safety regulations in Qatar and the Gulf region.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing faults and technical issues that arise during the commissioning and testing phase, and providing effective and timely solutions to prevent project schedule delays.
  • Coordination: Working closely with engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and facility operators to ensure the seamless integration of HVAC systems with other mechanical and electrical systems on the platform.
  • Documentation: Preparing comprehensive technical reports on testing procedures, commissioning logs, handover certificates, and any other required documentation for system delivery to the client.
  • Training: Providing necessary guidance and training to the operations team on the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.

Requirements and Qualifications

To qualify for this specialized role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or a recognized higher technical diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
  • Practical Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in the commissioning and testing of HVAC systems, with a strong emphasis on experience in offshore projects or the oil & gas sector. Experience in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) projects is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the principles of central HVAC plants and systems, control systems (BMS/DDC), and marine safety standards (e.g., SOLAS).
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills and excellent problem-solving abilities under pressure. Robust communication and interpersonal skills to work within a multicultural and multinational team.
  • Professional Certifications: Possession of basic offshore safety certificates such as (BOSIET, HUET) will be required or essential for working in the marine environment.
  • Physical Fitness: Applicants must be medically fit for work on offshore platforms, which may require residency for periods and shift work.

Work Location and Conditions

  • Location: Offshore platforms associated with energy projects in the State of Qatar.
  • Nature of Work: Full-time position, typically on a rotational work schedule (e.g., 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off), with accommodation provided on the platform or onshore during work periods.
