Job Description
The successful engineer will be integrated into the distinguished engineering team at Drydocks World, where they will be responsible for the technical aspects of HVAC systems across a variety of projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Design and Engineering: Contributing to the design and review of HVAC system layouts for new build vessels, conversion projects, repairs, and offshore structures (e.g., platforms). This involves cooling/heating load calculations, airflow rate determination, and appropriate equipment selection.
- Implementation Supervision: Providing engineering support and technical supervision during the fabrication and installation phases of HVAC systems within the shipyard, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and approved regulations.
- Quality Control and Testing: Participating in the inspection and testing of installed HVAC systems, including pressure and leak tests, performance trials, and ensuring they meet required standards.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving technical issues that may arise in existing systems or during new installation processes.
- Coordination: Working closely with other engineering departments (electrical, mechanical, structural), as well as with procurement and operations teams to ensure harmony and integration between all systems.
- Standards Compliance: Ensuring all designs and work are executed in accordance with relevant international standards (e.g., ASHRAE, ISO, marine classification standards) and local UAE regulations.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be a suitable candidate for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with a focus on HVAC systems.
- Experience: Proven practical experience of at least 3 to 5 years in HVAC engineering, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in marine, heavy industrial, or oil & gas projects. Experience in shipyards or repair facilities is a significant advantage.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of refrigeration & air conditioning principles, air distribution systems, control systems, and equipment selection (e.g., compressors, heat exchangers, cooling towers).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in relevant engineering design and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Personal Skills: Ability to work within a team, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and the capacity to manage time and work under pressure to meet challenges and deadlines.
- Language: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, as it is the primary working language in the company's international environment. Knowledge of Arabic is an additional advantage.
