Managing Director - Qatar at Averda

Job Overview
The Managing Director will be the primary leader responsible for all activities and performance of Averda in Qatar. This pivotal role focuses on leading the local team, ensuring operational excellence, and driving the financial and strategic growth objectives of the company within the Qatari market. The position serves as the key link between local operations and the group's senior executive management at a regional or global level.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the strategic plan for the Qatar branch in alignment with the overall vision and goals of the Averda group.
- Operational Leadership: Oversee all operational aspects including waste collection, treatment, recycling, cleaning services, and environmental solutions, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.
- Financial Leadership: Assume full responsibility for the branch's financial performance, including budgeting, financial forecasting, cost control, and ensuring revenue and profitability targets are met.
- Business Development: Identify new growth opportunities, nurture relationships with existing clients, and pursue new contracts with clients from both the public and private sectors in Qatar.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant government authorities (such as Municipalities, Ministry of Municipality and Environment), key clients, suppliers, and strategic partners.
- Team Leadership: Guide, lead, and develop the local management and staff team to foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.
- Compliance & Sustainability: Ensure full compliance with all local and environmental laws and regulations in Qatar, and champion sustainability initiatives and environmentally friendly practices.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 15 years of proven experience in senior leadership roles (e.g., Managing Director, Regional Operations Director), preferably within the environmental services, waste management, infrastructure, logistics, or heavy industries sector.
- Market Experience: Deep knowledge of the business environment and market in Qatar and the GCC region, with a strong understanding of governmental frameworks and workings.
- Financial Acumen: Strong financial management experience, including financial statement literacy, budgeting, and financial performance measurement.
- Leadership Skills: Exceptional ability to lead and motivate large, diverse teams, with a proven track record of building high-performing teams.
- Business Skills: Excellent commercial acumen and strong negotiation skills, with the ability to develop profitable growth strategies.
- Communication Skills: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Arabic (verbal and written), with the ability to interact effectively at all levels.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree as a minimum in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences. A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent is a strong advantage.
