Job Description
The Piping Design Engineer will be responsible for the technical and design aspects of complex piping systems within the drydock facilities and vessels under maintenance. This role is fundamental to ensuring the efficiency and safety of critical mechanical systems. Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and designing detailed piping layouts (P&IDs) and 3D schematic drawings using specialized engineering design software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, MicroStation, or PDMS.
- Preparing engineering calculations related to fluid flow, pressures, and thermal stresses to ensure designs meet technical specifications and international standards.
- Close coordination with other engineering teams, including mechanical, civil, and safety engineering, to integrate piping systems with the overall project design.
- Reviewing material specifications (pipes, valves, fittings) and selecting appropriate materials to withstand harsh operational conditions in the marine environment.
- Providing technical support during the execution and installation phases at the drydock, resolving any design issues that arise on-site.
- Ensuring full compliance with local and international quality and safety standards, such as ASME, API, and ISO codes, in all designs and deliverables.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be a successful candidate for this specialized technical role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent from a recognized university.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in piping system design, with a strong preference for experience in the ship repair, maritime, oil & gas, or heavy industries. Experience in a drydock environment is a significant competitive advantage.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for piping systems and 3D modeling as mentioned above. In-depth knowledge of relevant engineering codes and standards.
- Personal Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities for complex issues, high accuracy and attention to detail, and strong communication and interpersonal skills to work within a multidisciplinary team. The ability to manage time and work under project deadline pressures.
