Plant Engineer (FMCG Potato Chips) - Muscat, Oman

A leading and confidential company within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector in the Sultanate of Oman is seeking to hire a dedicated Plant Engineer to oversee potato chips manufacturing operations. This role presents a significant opportunity for experienced engineers in the industrial and specifically food manufacturing fields to join a dynamic work environment committed to product quality and operational efficiency.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The appointed engineer will be primarily responsible for the technical and operational aspects of the potato chips production plant. The focus will be on ensuring seamless production processes while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. Key responsibilities include:

  • Technical Supervision of Production Lines: Monitoring the performance of manufacturing equipment and machinery (e.g., peeling, slicing, frying, seasoning, and packaging lines) and ensuring they operate according to specified technical parameters.
  • Preventive and Corrective Maintenance: Developing and implementing routine maintenance schedules for plant equipment to minimize breakdowns and unplanned downtime. Rapidly diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, or electronic faults.
  • Efficiency and Productivity Optimization: Analyzing production data to identify areas of waste or bottlenecks in the process. Proposing and implementing technical and process improvements to increase line efficiency, reduce operating costs, and enhance plant productivity.
  • Quality and Safety Assurance: Collaborating with the quality control team to ensure the final product meets all standard specifications. Enforcing strict Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols within the plant environment and conducting training on safe practices for operational staff.
  • Management of Small-Scale Projects: Overseeing minor equipment upgrades, installation of new machinery, or any technical projects within the plant's scope.
  • Training and Supervision: Providing technical guidance to technicians and machine operators in the plant to ensure proper understanding of operation and basic maintenance procedures.

Qualifications and Core Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or any manufacturing-related engineering discipline.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing environment, with a strong preference for candidates with background in the food or beverage (FMCG) industry. Specific experience in snack food or potato chips production lines is a significant competitive advantage.
  • Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of engineering maintenance principles and production systems.
    • A good understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated control (PLC) systems is a plus.
    • Ability to read engineering and electrical schematics.
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills (Arabic/English). Ability to work under pressure and solve problems effectively. Leadership qualities and the ability to work within a cross-functional team. Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality standards.
