Job Description and Responsibilities
The Process Safety Engineer will be stationed at a site in Kuwait and will be an integral part of a specialized technical team. The key responsibilities expected for this role include:
- Developing and Implementing Process Safety Management (PSM) Systems: Working to establish, update, and maintain policies, procedures, and protocols related to process safety in accordance with global best practices and recognized standards such as CCPS, ISO 14001/45001, and local regulations.
- Conducting Risk Assessment Studies: Leading and performing specialized studies like Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) to identify potential hazards in existing and proposed designs and operations.
- Safety Design Review: Participating in safety design reviews (P&IDs, layout plans, equipment specifications) to ensure the integration of inherent safety principles from the initial design stage.
- Incident and Near-Miss Investigation: Leading or participating in detailed investigations of any safety-related incidents or high-potential near-misses, identifying root causes, and formulating effective recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Training and Awareness: Designing and delivering training and awareness programs for operations, maintenance, and management personnel on process safety requirements and risk awareness.
- Reporting and Documentation: Preparing comprehensive technical reports and documentation related to risk studies, investigation findings, and Process Safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Liaison with Regulatory Bodies: Collaborating with representatives of local regulatory and governmental authorities to submit required documentation and ensure full compliance with Kuwaiti laws and regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be eligible for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related engineering field from an accredited university.
- Professional Certifications: International professional certifications such as CFSP (Certified Functional Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) are highly preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in process safety engineering, preferably within heavy industries such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Refining, or Chemical Manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in safety engineering software and techniques, with in-depth knowledge of international safety standards (NFPA, API, IEC) and risk assessment methodologies.
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, effective written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English, and the ability to work within a team and a multidisciplinary environment.
- Additional Requirements: Applicants must possess a valid residency permit for Kuwait or be eligible to obtain one. The company may require the successful candidate to pass medical and security checks.
