Job Description

The Prosthetist/Orthotist will be responsible for the design, fabrication, fitting, and adjustment of prosthetic (artificial limbs) and orthotic (supportive braces) devices. This role sits at the crucial intersection of engineering and medicine, directly contributing to patient rehabilitation and enabling them to regain or improve mobility functions.

Key expected responsibilities and duties include:

• Assessing patients' needs in consultation with physicians and physiotherapists.
• Taking precise patient measurements, casts, and biometric data.
• Designing and detailing plans for required prosthetic or orthotic devices.
• Selecting appropriate materials (e.g., plastics, metals, composites) and fabricating the device.
• Fitting the device on the patient and making necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and functional efficiency.
• Educating the patient and their family on device use and care.
• Providing follow-up and maintenance services for devices.
• Maintaining accurate and thorough medical records for all cases.
• Adhering to the highest standards of safety, hygiene, and ethical practice in the lab or clinic.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be a successful candidate for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

Academic Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from a recognized university.
• Advanced certifications or courses in sub-specialties (e.g., pediatric orthotics, neuro-prosthetics) will be a strong advantage.

Professional Experience:

• Proven practical experience in fabricating and fitting prosthetic and orthotic devices.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary medical team.
• Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software used in the field is a significant plus.
