Job Overview

A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is a fundamental pillar for the financial success of any construction project, responsible for managing all cost and financial aspects. In this specialized role focusing on infrastructure and pipeline projects, the emphasis will be on major projects that form the backbone of urban and industrial development in the region. This includes sewage networks, water and fuel transmission pipelines, irrigation projects, and associated roads and bridges.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

In this role, you will be accountable for a range of critical tasks that support the project's financial viability and operational efficiency:

  • Preparation and Analysis of Quantity Take-offs: Prepare accurate Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for various project stages, from tender to final delivery, with a focus on infrastructure works and pipeline installation.
  • Cost Control and Budget Management: Monitor actual project costs against the approved budget, identify any variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Valuation of Work Done: Calculate the value of work done for subcontractors and suppliers based on the percentage of completion and prepare payment application documents.
  • Contract Analysis and Claims Management: Thoroughly review and understand contract clauses, manage any claims arising from changes in work scope or site conditions, and ensure the financial interests of the company are protected.
  • Coordination with Other Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure the accuracy of quantitative and financial data.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide clear and periodic reports on the project's financial status to senior management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

To be a successful candidate for this opportunity, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, with a strong focus on infrastructure and/or pipeline projects. Experience in the Gulf market, particularly the UAE, is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of quantity surveying methods, reading structural and civil drawings, and knowledge of pipeline systems, types, and materials.
  • Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in relevant computer software, especially MS Office (Advanced Excel), and specialized quantity surveying software like AutoCAD or similar.
  • Personal Skills: High accuracy, attention to detail, and strong analytical and inferential skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic will be an additional advantage.
