Job Description and Responsibilities
The appointed Quantity Surveyor will perform a range of vital tasks focused on the financial and commercial aspects of construction projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Cost Management: Preparing and analyzing initial project cost estimates, monitoring budgets throughout the project lifecycle, and ensuring adherence to allocated financial approvals.
- Quantity Take-Off: Preparing accurate Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for contractors and suppliers, calculating required quantities of materials and labor.
- Subcontractor Management: Evaluating subcontractor tenders, negotiating prices and terms, and preparing work contracts.
- Valuation and Estimation: Assessing payment applications from contractors (Interim Valuations) and preparing regular financial progress reports for management.
- Change Management: Evaluating the impact of design or scope changes on cost and schedule, and preparing and documenting Variation Orders.
- Procurement: Assisting in the procurement of materials and services, ensuring best value for money.
- Final Account Settlement: Preparing the project's Final Account and settling all financial claims with relevant parties.
- Reporting: Preparing clear and comprehensive financial reports on project performance for project managers and senior management.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be a successful candidate for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Professional Certification: Professional certifications such as RICS or equivalent are highly preferred.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, preferably on large or medium-scale construction projects in the Gulf region, with knowledge of the Qatari contracting market.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in measurement and estimation software (e.g., AutoCAD, CostX, Bluebeam) and spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of common construction contract forms (e.g., FIDIC).
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, high accuracy and attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and meet challenges, and strong analytical abilities.
