Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will occupy a critical role within the project team, with primary responsibilities focused on ensuring all lifting, loading, and transportation operations for heavy equipment and structures are executed to the highest standards of safety and efficiency. Key day-to-day duties include:
- Planning and Supervision: Developing detailed and practical lift plans, including the selection of appropriate equipment (cranes, slings, hoists) and rigging methods. Providing direct on-site supervision to the rigging crew and equipment operators.
- Safety First: Ensuring strict compliance with all local and international safety regulations, as well as the project and company's specific safety management programs. Conducting thorough risk assessments prior to any lifting operation and implementing required control measures.
- Equipment Inspection: Performing regular and detailed inspections of all lifting and rigging gear (cranes, wire ropes, slings, shackles) to certify their integrity and serviceability, maintaining accurate periodic inspection records.
- Cross-Department Coordination: Working closely with project managers, construction engineers, maintenance teams, and safety officers to ensure rigging operations are fully integrated with the overall project schedule.
- Problem-Solving: Addressing any technical or operational challenges that arise during lifting activities, making quick and effective decisions to maintain workflow and safety.
- Training and Guidance: Providing technical guidance and mentorship to the crew under his/her supervision, promoting knowledge of best practices and safe procedures.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
To be considered a qualified candidate for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education and Experience: A diploma in a relevant engineering field (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial) or a recognized technical qualification, coupled with a minimum of 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience in rigging and lifting operations within industries such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power, or Heavy Industrial Construction. This experience must include at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of various lifting equipment types, their capacities, load calculations, and standard hand signals. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety standards (e.g., OSHA, LOLER, or local Gulf standards).
- Personal Skills: Strong leadership and management abilities. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and plans. Meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach.
- Professional Certifications: Professionally recognized certifications in rigging and safety (e.g., from bodies like API, NCCER, or equivalent) are highly preferred.
- Language: Proficiency in English for technical and administrative communication. Knowledge of Arabic is a distinct advantage.
