Job Overview
The Safety Officer will be stationed at the company's project site, serving as the primary responsible party for monitoring and implementing comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs. The core objective is to ensure a safe working environment that complies with all local and international regulations. This critical role is fundamental to upholding the company's reputation and ensuring zero-incident operations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee the implementation of the company's HSE policies and procedures on the project site.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and reviews to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and prepare detailed reports with corrective action recommendations.
- Organize and deliver safety training programs and awareness sessions for site workers and supervisors.
- Review Method Statements and Risk Assessments for various tasks.
- Ensure the availability and correct use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all personnel.
- Maintain all safety-related records and documentation, including training logs, inspection reports, and incident reports.
- Liaise with project management and subcontractors to promote a strong safety culture at all levels.
- Stay updated on the latest safety laws, regulations, and standards applicable in Bahrain.
- Participate in safety meetings and provide regular reports on site safety performance.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Industrial) or a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- A recognized professional certification in safety such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent is a significant advantage.
- Proven practical experience of 3 to 5 years in a Safety Officer role, preferably within the contracting, construction, or heavy industry sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of HSE management systems and procedures (e.g., OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001).
- Strong knowledge of local Bahraini safety regulations and laws.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in both Arabic and English.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick, decisive decisions when necessary.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to prepare technical reports.
- The candidate must possess a valid residency permit for Bahrain or be eligible to obtain one.
