This role is fundamental to upholding a strong safety culture across the company's sites, with the officer bearing direct responsibility for implementing and monitoring Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs to ensure a secure working environment for all employees and contractors.
Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer at Unifit will be entrusted with a range of critical duties and core responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Enforcing Safety Standards: Ensuring full compliance with local occupational health and safety regulations (such as Saudi Civil Defense regulations) and the company's adopted international standards.
- Inspection and Monitoring: Conducting regular and surprise inspections of work sites, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards or non-compliance with safety protocols.
- Reporting and Documentation: Preparing detailed reports on safety incidents, near-misses, and non-conformances, proposing corrective and preventive actions, and following up on their implementation.
- Training and Awareness: Contributing to the design and delivery of training and awareness programs for employees and workers on safe work practices, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures.
- Risk Management: Participating in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for various tasks and recommending control measures to mitigate risks.
- Equipment Checks: Verifying the validity and safety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), firefighting, and first-aid equipment before use.
- Safety Meetings: Attending and managing safety committee meetings, presenting safety statistics and performance indicators.
- Collaboration: Working closely with project management, supervisors, and engineers to integrate safety considerations into all phases of work.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
To be a qualified candidate for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., HSE, Engineering, Sciences) or a Diploma with considerable experience.
- Professional Certifications: Possession of recognized safety certifications such as (NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, or locally equivalent certificates) is highly preferred.
- Experience: Proven practical experience of at least 3 to 5 years in the occupational health and safety field, preferably within the construction, contracting, or similar industrial sectors.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Saudi and international safety regulations and standards (OSHA standards).
- Personal Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in both Arabic and English.
- Ability to prepare reports and presentations.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify problems and find solutions.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions when necessary.
- Integrity and firmness in enforcing rules.
