Sample Receiving & Registration Technician - Sohar, Oman

A leading and confidential company is actively seeking to hire a meticulous and organized Sample Receiving & Registration Technician for its facilities located in the industrial city of Sohar, a major industrial hub in the Sultanate of Oman. Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The appointed technician will be a crucial link in the initial sample handling chain, responsible for ensuring the accurate and systematic receipt and registration of incoming samples. Core duties and responsibilities include:

  • Sample Receipt: Receiving incoming samples from various sources (e.g., production lines, suppliers, field sampling teams) and verifying their condition upon arrival, ensuring they meet specified receipt requirements.
  • Registration & Documentation: Accurately logging sample data into the designated sample management system or database. This involves assigning unique identification numbers, recording essential information such as sample type, source, date, time, and any initial observations.
  • Sorting & Labeling: Categorizing samples according to their type or required testing and applying clear, correct identification tags or labels to prevent any mix-ups.
  • Basic Preparation: Tasks may include performing simple initial sample processing as per standard operating procedures, such as basic mixing or sub-division, in preparation for transfer to relevant analytical departments.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and organized paper and/or electronic records for all incoming and outgoing samples, ensuring full traceability.
  • Communication: Coordinating with other departments such as Quality Assurance and laboratories to facilitate sample flow and address any queries related to registered samples.
  • Compliance: Strict adherence to laboratory or receiving area safety protocols, and compliance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company policies for sample management.

Qualifications & Key Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A diploma or technical qualification in a science field (such as Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) or a related discipline. Candidates with a high school diploma and relevant practical experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Previous practical experience (typically 1-3 years) in a similar role such as a lab technician, lab assistant, or in positions requiring precise record and sample management. Experience in an industrial or analytical laboratory environment is a significant advantage.
  • Personal Skills:
    • Accuracy & Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to work with high precision to avoid errors in logging and numbering that could impact final results.
    • Organizational Skills: Ability to organize workflow, manage sample throughput, and maintain general order in the work area.
    • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using computers and Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel), with the ability to quickly learn proprietary data management software or systems.
    • Teamwork: A collaborative spirit and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across different departments.
    • Reliability & Punctuality: Commitment to work schedules and the ability to handle peak sample receipt periods efficiently.
