Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The Senior Application Support Engineer will occupy a vital role in ensuring the stability, efficiency, and performance of critical customer-facing or internal software applications and systems. You will be responsible for providing advanced Level 2 and Level 3 technical support, handling complex issues that escalate beyond basic support tiers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Advanced Technical Support: Diagnosing and resolving complex software application issues, including performance bugs, integration problems, and stability concerns.
  • Incident Management & Response: Leading or actively participating in the team's response to critical Major Incidents, working to restore service as swiftly as possible, and conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to prevent recurrence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitoring application performance using specialized tools, and proposing and implementing code-level or configuration improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Collaboration with Development Teams: Acting as a crucial liaison between support and engineering/development teams, accurately translating customer requirements and problem details to facilitate fixes and enhancements.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management: Creating and updating technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and Knowledge Base articles to empower support teams and ensure smooth knowledge transfer.
  • User Support: Guiding and supporting end-users or internal customers on advanced technical issues, providing clear explanations and practical solutions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

To be a successful candidate for this opportunity, you must possess the right blend of practical experience, technical skills, and personal attributes:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in application support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or similar roles, with a focus on enterprise application support.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Deep understanding of web application architectures and technologies (e.g., APIs, databases, servers).
    • Strong proficiency in writing and using SQL queries for problem investigation.
    • Practical knowledge of operating systems (Linux/Unix and/or Windows Server).
    • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, New Relic).
    • Knowledge of networking concepts and cybersecurity fundamentals.
    • Ability to read and understand application logs and code (preferably in a language like Java, .NET, Python) for diagnostic purposes.
  • Personal Skills:
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills to tackle complex issues under pressure.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
    • Customer-service orientation and a desire to deliver an exceptional support experience.
