Senior Instrument Analyst (XRF / ICP-OES / AAS) Jobs in Sohar, Oman

Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The Senior Analyst will be responsible for operating and managing a suite of sophisticated analytical instrumentation, with primary focus on:
- X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectroscopy: For rapid, non-destructive elemental analysis of solid and liquid samples.
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES): For accurate determination and measurement of metallic and metalloid elements across a wide concentration range.
- Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS): For high-precision analysis of specific element concentrations, particularly at trace levels.
The core responsibilities of the role will include:
- Preparing samples for analysis using the aforementioned techniques in accordance with approved standard methods (ASTM, ISO, etc.).
- Routinely operating, maintaining, monitoring performance, and performing basic troubleshooting for XRF, ICP-OES, and AAS instruments.
- Processing analytical data, interpreting results, and preparing accurate, clear, and timely technical reports.
- Ensuring quality assurance and validation of lab results, participating in inter-laboratory comparison programs (IPC), and using certified reference materials (CRMs).
- Strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
- Training and supporting less experienced analysts and providing technical guidance.
- Contributing to the updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintaining equipment and maintenance logs.
Qualifications & Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field. A Master's degree will be a distinct advantage.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in operating and maintaining XRF, ICP-OES, and AAS instruments within an industrial, environmental, or research laboratory. Experience in petrochemical, mining, or raw materials industries is a significant plus.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of the operational theory and practical applications of the mentioned instruments.
- Strong skills in sample preparation (digestion, dilution, matrix matching/correction).
- Proficiency with instrument operating software and data processing packages (e.g., Spectra software, ChemStation, WinLab).
- Solid understanding of laboratory Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) principles and validation.
- Personal Skills:

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and technical report-writing skills.
- Flexibility and ability to work in a dynamic environment.
