Intertek Global International is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Welding Inspector to join its team in the industrial hub of Sohar, Sultanate of Oman. This position represents a key career opportunity for seasoned professionals specializing in the inspection and quality assurance of welding activities within major industrial projects, particularly in the thriving oil & gas, energy, and petrochemical sectors of the Sohar region.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The appointed Senior Inspector will be based at a project site and will hold critical responsibility for ensuring compliance with the highest standards of quality and safety. The core duties of this role include:

  • Conducting thorough and frequent inspections of on-site welding activities to verify compliance with approved technical specifications, design drawings, international codes (e.g., ASME, API, AWS), and client regulations.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance and work of project welders, verifying their qualifications and certifications.
  • Inspecting base materials (pipes, plates, etc.) and consumables (electrodes, wires, gases) used in welding operations.
  • Reviewing and preparing daily inspection reports, documenting any Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and following up on corrective and preventive actions.
  • Working closely with project engineers, quality managers, and contractor teams to ensure integrated and seamless inspection processes.
  • Overseeing relevant Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) related to welding, such as Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT).
  • Ensuring strict adherence to all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols on the work site.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced welding technicians and inspectors.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

To be eligible for this senior-level position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering field. Exceptional and recognized practical experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Professional Certifications: Possession of internationally recognized welding inspection certifications is mandatory. Preference will be given to candidates holding valid CSWIP 3.2 or AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certifications or their equivalents.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience in welding inspection, with a proven track record on major industrial projects such as oil refineries, power plants, or petrochemical facilities. Experience within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of various welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW), material specifications, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods. Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics (P&IDs, Isometrics).
  • Personal Skills: Excellent communication and leadership abilities, high attention to detail and accuracy, and the capacity to work under pressure and make sound decisions. The successful candidate must demonstrate high levels of reliability and professional integrity.
  • Language: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential for communication with international teams and report preparation.
