Sr. Specialist Database Administrator at Oman Investment Authority

Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will occupy a critical leadership position, ensuring the integrity, availability, performance, and security of vital database systems that underpin the Authority's investment and financial operations. Core responsibilities will include:
- Oversight and Operations: Supervising the operation and maintenance of core database systems (e.g., Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server) across production, development, and testing environments.
- Performance and Security Assurance: Proactively monitoring database performance, implementing performance tuning for queries, indexes, and server configurations to ensure optimal speed. Designing and enforcing robust security strategies encompassing access management, encryption, and audit log reviews.
- Backup and Recovery Planning: Developing and testing comprehensive backup and recovery plans to ensure business continuity and protect data from loss.
- Capacity Planning and Upgrades: Planning for future database capacity requirements and overseeing system upgrades and patching in coordination with other IT teams.
- Support and Consultation: Providing technical support and consultation to developer teams and business analysts regarding database design, complex queries, and best practices.
- Policy and Procedure Documentation: Creating and maintaining technical documentation for operational procedures, security policies, and database infrastructure designs.
Qualifications and Requirements
To qualify for this specialized role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced professional certifications (e.g., Oracle OCP, Microsoft MCSE) are a significant advantage.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in database administration, with proven expertise in senior or specialist roles. Experience within the financial, investment, or large institutional sector is a strong competitive advantage.
- Advanced Technical Skills:
- Deep proficiency in administering and managing Oracle Database and/or Microsoft SQL Server in high-availability environments (e.g., Oracle RAC, Always On).
- Strong expertise in writing and optimizing complex SQL and PL/SQL or T-SQL queries.
- Hands-on experience with backup and recovery concepts and tools (e.g., RMAN).
- Solid understanding of operating systems (Linux/Unix, Windows Server).
- Personal Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and address complex technical challenges. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating within a multidisciplinary team. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
