Job Description

The Sr. Specialist will be placed within the Safety & Environment division, responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in all aspects of fire risk and emergency management. Operating in a critical industrial environment, this role is paramount for ensuring business continuity and the safety of personnel and assets.

Key Expected Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Safety Strategies: Lead the development, review, and updating of company-wide fire prevention, firefighting, and emergency management policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure alignment with global best practices and local/international regulatory standards.
  • Risk Assessment and Auditing: Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments across all facilities and operations. Perform regular audits and inspections of fire protection systems (e.g., alarm, suppression, detection systems) to ensure their perpetual readiness.
  • Emergency Planning: Lead and develop emergency response and evacuation plans. Organize and conduct regular mock drills to test the effectiveness of these plans and ensure the preparedness of all teams.
  • Leadership and Training: Provide technical leadership and supervision to firefighting and emergency response teams. Design and implement specialized training programs for company staff and contractors to enhance safety awareness and effective incident response.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead or participate in investigations of fire and emergency incidents, determine root causes, and develop corrective and preventive recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Budget and Contractor Management: Contribute to budgeting for fire systems and equipment. Oversee the performance of related contractors and suppliers.

Requirements and Qualifications

PDO is seeking highly qualified candidates with proven experience in heavy industrial environments, particularly the oil and gas sector.

Educational Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in Mechanical, Chemical, Safety Engineering, or a related field).
  • Internationally recognized professional certifications in fire protection and emergency management (e.g., CFPS, NFPA, IOSH, or specialized NEBOSH certificates) will be a significant advantage.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of practical experience in fire and emergency management, with a strong focus on the oil & gas, petrochemical, or major industrial facilities sector.
  • In-depth experience in applying international safety standards (e.g., NFPA, OSHA, API) and local Omani standards.
  • Proven experience in team leadership, strategic plan development, and project management related to safety systems.
  • Ability to analyze data, prepare complex technical reports, and deliver presentations to senior management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both Arabic and English.
