Drydocks World, Dubai, a premier global facility for ship repair, conversion, and new-building of offshore and marine structures, is seeking a qualified and experienced professional for the position of Work Preparator I – Structural. This role offers a significant opportunity to join a dynamic team at the heart of the global maritime industry in Dubai.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the structural production team, responsible for the precise preparation and technical planning of structural work packages prior to the commencement of fabrication and installation activities on the shop floor. This role is crucial in ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety in Drydocks World's massive projects, encompassing ship repair, conversion, and new-building of marine structures.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Study and interpret detailed structural engineering drawings and understand project specifications thoroughly.
  • Prepare Material Take-Off (MTO) lists and calculate required quantities of plates, steel sections, and other structural materials.
  • Mark and prepare raw materials (e.g., metal plates) for cutting and forming, using appropriate measuring and marking tools.
  • Coordinate with design and production engineers to resolve any clashes or technical queries in the drawings.
  • Prepare Work Preparation Packs including job instructions and sequence of operations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to international quality standards and project specifications at all preparation stages.
  • Rigorously comply with all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols in an industrial work setting.
  • Work closely with workshop supervisors and technical crews to ensure smooth workflow execution.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A diploma or certificate in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Fabrication) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on experience in structural work preparation or production planning, preferably within the shipbuilding/repair or heavy steel fabrication industry.
  • Strong practical knowledge of reading and interpreting engineering and detailed structural drawings.
  • Good understanding of structural fabrication processes (cutting, bending, welding, assembly).
  • Strong computer skills, particularly MS Office. Knowledge of CAD software is a distinct advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety standards.
  • Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and effective communication. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
