Georgian Technical University: A Leader in Engineering and Technology Established in 1922 as the Georgian Polytechnic Institute, Georgian Technical University (GTU) stands as a leading institution in engineering and technology within Georgia and the South Caucasus. The first lecture was read by the world famous Georgian mathematician Professor Andria Razmadze. GTU has been an active member of the European University Association (EUA) since 2001 and became part of the Bologna Process in 2005, aligning its educational framework with European standards. The university offers 168 academic programs across all three levels of higher education, distributed among 13 faculties: Civil Engineering Power Engineering Mining and Geology Chemical Technology and Metallurgy Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering Architecture, Urban Planning, and Design Law and International Relations Engineering Economics, Media Technology, and Social Sciences Business Technology Informatics and Control Systems International Design School Agricultural Science and Biosystems Engineering Sustainable Mountain Development GTU provides a wide range of academic opportunities, including 73 Bachelor's programs (one of which is an integrated Veterinary program), 58 Master's programs, 36 PhD programs, and a Georgian language training program. Additionally, it offers 27 Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs. Through its partnership with Sokendai University in Japan, GTU supports young scholars in pursuing PhD degrees in Nuclear Physics. The university's research infrastructure consists of 15 Scientific-Research Institutes and 12 laboratories. Its workforce includes 325 administrative personnel, 1,332 academic staff, 773 faculty members, and 676 research institute employees. GTU is home to Georgia’s second-largest library, housing 1,797,012 books, 49,151 e-books, and 500,000 scientific journals. Over the last five years, its researchers have secured 76 national and 7 international patents. GTU actively collaborates with world-renowned research institutions, such as CERN (Switzerland) (experiments CMS and ATLAS), KEK (Japan) (experiment COMPET), Fermilab (USA) (experiment DUNA), Julich Research Center (Germany), INFN (Italy), and Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (Germany). The university is highly involved in national and international research funding programs, participating in grants from the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Horizon Europe, NATO, USAID, and other major funding bodies.
