Formerly known as the University of Lviv, the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is the oldest university in Ukraine founded in 1661. Located to the west of Ukraine in the large city of Lviv, the university has a student body numbering over 20,000.  It is named after Ivan Franko, a famous Ukrainian scholar and writer who studied there in the 1870s.
