We welcome more than 28,000 students from 140 countries, and ensure they graduate as highly employable professionals. We’re a global leader in ageing and health, data, energy, cities, and the creative arts, and many of our 225,000 alumni are leading the way in sectors as diverse as digital technology, finance, and fine art. We’re one of the top 150 universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2022) and we have a thriving international community led by world-class teaching staff. Our academics include three T.S. Eliot Prize winners, the Scottish national poet Jackie Kay, and Turner Prize nominees. The University exists to find solutions to some of the world's greatest challenges, to pioneer new ways of thinking, and to provide students with the high-quality learning and teaching experience they need to start changing the world. Our Newcastle campus has a history dating back to 1834. As a founding member of the Russell Group, we have a world-class reputation for pioneering research and innovation in the fields of medicine, science and engineering, social sciences, arts and humanities. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) placed Newcastle University 16th in the UK for Research Power and we have received three prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prizes for the quality of our research. We inspire students to think differently, take on new challenges, and gain the confidence to push boundaries – all while forging lasting friendships and making incredible memories. Our Newcastle campus Our 50-acre campus in Newcastle city centre is the hub for our teaching, research and collaboration. Newcastle University students benefit from our award-winning library service with over one million print books, a wide collection of rare books and manuscripts, and half a million e-books. We also have various subject-specific on and off-campus facilities. These include two farms, a marine laboratory and vessel, purpose-built music and media studios, high-specification labs and clinical skills suites, Hatton Art Gallery (one of the largest exhibition spaces in the North East) and The Great North Museum: Hancock (our on-campus museum). We’re home to the National Innovation Centre for Ageing, the National Innovation Centre for Data, and the National Centre for Energy Systems. Not to mention our Urban Observatory, which is the largest set of open environmental monitoring data in the world. When it comes to student accommodation, we understand the importance of finding the right home from home. Our accommodation is ranked Top 20 in the UK (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2020). It ranges from historic Victorian halls to modern city-centre apartments and student villages.
