Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad is one of the most renowned universities of Pakistan. PIEAS offers BS, MS and PhD degree programs though major focus is on postgraduate studies. Degrees in Medical Physics, Radiation Physics, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Cyber Security, Computer and Information Sciences, Physics, Applied Mathematics and Chemistry disciplines geared towards national needs and scientific development is unique feature of PIEAS. A large number of PIEAS graduates contribute towards green energy generation programs of Pakistan. PIEAS also conducts Management Courses to the Personnel working at higher Management level. PIEAS believes in merit where affordability is not an obstacle in acquiring higher education. PIEAS has excellent experimental and computational facilities for conducting research and development projects in cutting‑edge technologies. Securing admission in PIEAS is highly competitive and based on nation-wide exams. Success rate is about 1-2 % in BS programs and 3-4 % in MS programs. Most of the postgraduate students are fully sponsored and partial support in fees is also available to a larger fraction of undergraduate students. Services of PIEAS graduates for the nation has been recognized by government of Pakistan so well that about 2% of the MS graduates have been decorated with the highest National Civil Awards including Nishan-i-Imtiaz, Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance, President Medal for Technology and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. PIEAS has pronounced linkages with international institutions of high standing including IAEA, CERN and ICTP and several other universities. PIEAS steers a number of scholarly activities at national level including STEM project to promote scientific interest in higher school students and participation in Science Olympiads, as well as PAK-LINDAU Nobel Laureate Meeting program for young scientists. UNSECO Chair, “Light for Health” has been created at PIEAS in recognition to its contribution in Photodynamic Therapy.
