Founded in 2004, the University of Nizwa (UoN) is a faculty governed not-for-profit private university. It has expanded both in size, from 1,200 to 6,500 students, and in the number and diversity of the programmes it offers. Construction is underway for a new state-of-the-art campus to reflect and support this growth. UoN is located 140km from the national capital of Muscat in the interior region of Al-Dakhiliya, near the historic former capital of Nizwa; one of the oldest cities in Oman. It was once a centre of trade, religion, education and art. The main tourist attractions in the city are Nizwa Fort, the traditional market (Souq) and famous water stream Falaj Daris. Their key focus is academic excellence and leadership through research and technology. They aspire to be beacon of knowledge and enlightenment, and aim to achieve a worldwide reputation for their programmes and graduates plus international distinction for innovation, progress and development. UoN’s purpose broadly is to educate students and equip them with the values, knowledge and life skills needed to enrich their lives and enable them to meaningfully contribute to the progress of society.
