Job Overview and Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the legal management at QAFCO, with a specific focus on enhancing and implementing legal operations and systems. Core responsibilities will involve overseeing the operational aspects of the Legal Department to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance. The Associate General Counsel will work closely with the General Counsel and other team members to drive operational excellence.

Specific duties are expected to include:

• Process Improvement: Reviewing, developing, and implementing the Legal Department's internal processes, policies, and procedures to streamline workflows and ensure consistency.
• Legal Technology Management: Overseeing the selection, management, and utilization of Legal Tech tools and technologies to enhance team productivity and knowledge management.
• Budget and Resource Management: Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of the legal department's budget, managing relationships with external service providers (e.g., law firms), and ensuring optimal resource allocation.
• Reporting and Data Analytics: Developing key performance indicators (KPIs) and generating regular reports on the legal department's performance, contract activities, and litigation matters to aid management decision-making.
• Contract Management: Overseeing the contract lifecycle management system, from initial drafting through negotiation, execution, and renewal, to ensure the company's legal protection.
• Compliance and Training: Ensuring internal processes comply with applicable regulations, and developing/delivering training programs for legal team members and other departments on legal procedures and compliance.

Qualifications and Essential Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this leadership role, you must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Background: A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university. A Master of Laws (LL.M) or other advanced legal qualification will be a strong advantage.
• Licensing: Must be a licensed legal practitioner, preferably admitted in Qatar or holding a recognized legal qualification that allows for obtaining the necessary license to practice in Qatar.
• Experience: A minimum of 8 to 12 years of professional legal experience, with a significant portion gained in an international corporate environment or a reputable law firm. Direct experience in legal operations management or process improvement within a sizable legal department is a prerequisite.
• Technical Skills: Strong familiarity with the latest legal operations tools, technologies, and contract management systems.
• Personal Skills: Exceptional analytical and managerial abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English. The ability to lead projects and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Industry Knowledge: Prior knowledge or experience in the petrochemical, manufacturing, or energy sectors will be a significant advantage, given the nature of QAFCO's business.
