Job Overview

The Aviation Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting and implementing the airport's Safety Management Systems (SMS) in compliance with local and international regulatory requirements, particularly those set by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The specialist will work closely with various operational departments to ensure all activities adhere to the highest safety standards, identify potential hazards, and develop appropriate mitigation measures.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Contribute to the development, review, and updating of the airport's operational safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct periodic inspections and audits of field operational activities (airside, ramps, cargo facilities, etc.) to verify compliance with safety standards.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety violations, determine root causes, and prepare detailed reports with corrective and preventive action recommendations.
• Collect and analyze safety data to monitor trends and identify areas for improvement within the safety management system.
• Coordinate and deliver safety awareness and training programs for employees and contractors to foster a positive safety culture.
• Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies (e.g., QCAA) concerning aviation safety issues and compliance.
• Participate in emergency simulation drills and assess their effectiveness.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Aviation, Safety Management, Sciences, or a related technical discipline.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in aviation safety, airport operations, or safety management within a high-risk operational environment. Previous experience at an international airport is highly preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of ICAO and QCAA standards and requirements related to Safety Management Systems (SMS).
• Experience with incident investigation methodologies (e.g., Root Cause Analysis) and data analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills in both Arabic and English.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with strong analytical skills and a keen attention to detail.
• Possession of recognized professional certifications in safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or specialized aviation safety certificates) will be a significant advantage.
