Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Biomedical Technician will hold a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal and accurate operation of biomedical equipment. The core responsibilities will focus on:

  • Routine and Preventive Maintenance: Performing scheduled inspections and maintenance on a wide range of biomedical equipment such as patient monitors, diagnostic devices, laboratory equipment, and ICU apparatus to prevent malfunctions and ensure result accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnosing the causes of technical failures in medical equipment and carrying out necessary repairs efficiently, or coordinating with vendors for complex repairs requiring specialized intervention.
  • Testing and Calibration: Ensuring all medical devices are calibrated according to local and international standard specifications and safety protocols, while maintaining accurate records of all maintenance and calibration activities.
  • Technical Support and Training: Providing direct technical support to end-user teams (doctors, nurses, lab technicians) and offering basic guidance on the proper use and safe operation of equipment.
  • Inventory Management: Assisting in monitoring the inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring the availability of necessary materials for timely maintenance and repairs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all maintenance and repair operations comply with applicable health and safety regulations in the Sultanate of Oman and relevant international standards.

Qualifications and Key Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A diploma or university degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering with a focus on medical devices, or any closely related field.
  • Work Experience: Proven practical experience of at least 2-3 years in maintaining and repairing biomedical equipment within a hospital, clinic, medical center, or for a medical equipment supplier.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of the working principles of common medical devices, ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics, and proficiency in using measurement and testing tools.
  • Personal Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and accuracy, and the capacity to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Additional Requirements: Candidates with certified training certificates from major medical equipment manufacturers will be preferred. Proficiency in English for handling technical manuals is essential, and knowledge of Arabic will be an added advantage.
