Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The appointed Coffee Roaster will work in a dynamic environment focused on quality and precision. The core responsibilities of the position will include:

• Operating and Managing Roasting Equipment: Professionally operating specialized coffee roasting machines, monitoring the roasting process from start to finish to ensure the desired flavor profile and quality are achieved for each batch.
• Quality Control and Consistency: Conducting rigorous quality checks on both green and roasted coffee beans. The roaster is responsible for ensuring consistency in flavor, color, and aroma across all production batches, adhering to the company's strict standards.
• Coffee Blend Development: Contributing to the development and refinement of existing coffee blends, and participating in the creation of new blends under the guidance of expert team members, with an understanding of bean characteristics from different origins.
• Maintenance and Cleanliness: Adhering to scheduled maintenance programs for roasting equipment to ensure efficiency and operational safety. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace in accordance with the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
• Documentation and Record Keeping: Accurately logging roasting data, including temperature profiles, roast times, and notes for each batch, to ensure quality traceability and the ability to replicate successful results.
• Team Collaboration: Working closely with the procurement team, quality control team, and barista team to ensure workflow synergy and the achievement of the company's shared vision.

Required Qualifications and Skills

To be a successful candidate for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

• Practical Experience: Previous hands-on experience (minimum of 1 year) in coffee roasting within a roastery, specialty café, or similar food production environment. Experience with specific roasting machines (e.g., Probat, Loring, Diedrich) will be a strong advantage.
• Technical Knowledge: A deep understanding of the stages of the coffee roasting process, from green bean to finished product. Knowledge of the characteristics of coffee beans from different origins (single-origin or blends) and the impact of roast profiles on flavor.
• Sensory Skills (Cupping): Possessing a developed sense of taste and smell (palate) for evaluating roasted coffee quality, with the ability to identify defects and desired flavor notes.
• Commitment to Quality and Safety: Full awareness of food safety standards (such as Good Manufacturing Practices - GMP) and strict adherence to them in all work stages.
• Personal Attributes: Ability to work with precision and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Good communication skills for teamwork. Reliability and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift bags of coffee beans (which can weigh up to 25-30 kg), and work in an environment that may be warm due to proximity to roasting equipment.
