Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The appointed Engineering Specialist will hold a pivotal technical role within the engineering team, responsible for a range of technical and engineering tasks related to power and propulsion systems onboard vessels and marine installations. Core responsibilities include:

  • Analysis & Maintenance: Conducting in-depth technical analysis of marine propulsion systems (such as thrusters, propellers, control systems) and shipboard power generation and distribution systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing complex failures in mechanical and electrical systems related to power and propulsion and proposing effective engineering solutions.
  • Technical Support: Providing specialized technical support to operations and project teams, ensuring systems comply with technical specifications and international standards.
  • Development & Improvement: Contributing to the improvement of existing system efficiency and evaluating upgrade proposals to ensure the highest standards of performance and reliability are met.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Preparing accurate technical reports, maintenance documentation, and operational specifications for power and propulsion systems.

Qualifications & Essential Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this specialized role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on professional experience in marine systems engineering, with a strong focus on power and propulsion systems (e.g., main diesel engines, gas turbines, propulsion control systems, generators).
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the principles of marine engines, power transmission systems, and shipboard electrical power systems.
  • Standards & Regulations: Solid knowledge of relevant international marine standards and regulations (e.g., from leading maritime classification societies).
  • Personal Skills: Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to work under pressure and solve complex problems. Leadership skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team are highly advantageous.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. Knowledge of Arabic is a beneficial addition.
