Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The Fire and Safety Officer will be an integral part of the company's Risk and Safety Management team, with a focus on fire prevention and emergency response. The core responsibilities of this position include:
- Compliance and Monitoring: Ensuring full compliance with all local (e.g., Qatar Civil Defense) and international fire safety regulations applicable to the aviation industry.
- Inspection and Auditing: Conducting regular and periodic inspections of all company facilities (offices, workshops, storage areas, ramps) to verify the availability and serviceability of firefighting and alarm equipment, and that escape routes are unobstructed.
- Risk Management: Identifying and assessing fire-related hazards in the workplace and proposing and implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
- Training and Awareness: Contributing to the design and delivery of training programs for company staff on fire safety procedures, the use of fire extinguishers, and emergency evacuation plans.
- Emergency Planning: Assisting in the development, review, and updating of the company's fire safety and emergency response plans, ensuring all stakeholders understand their roles.
- Incident Investigation: Participating in investigations of any incidents or minor fire-related occurrences, determining root causes, and producing reports with recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Coordination: Working closely with Facilities Management, Qatar Civil Defense, and other operational departments to promote a strong safety culture.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
To be a successful candidate for this vital role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A university degree (Bachelor's) in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Safety) or Sciences, or a recognized diploma in Fire Safety or Engineering.
- Professional Certifications: Possession of recognized safety certifications (such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent) is a significant advantage and often a requirement.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in fire safety, preferably in a large-scale industrial or operational environment such as airports, airlines, ports, or manufacturing plants.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of fire protection systems (alarm, suppression, hydrant systems) and international building/fire safety codes (e.g., NFPA).
- Personal Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in both Arabic and English.
- Ability to analyze data and write clear, technical reports.
- Effective training and presentation skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
- Other Requirements: Good physical fitness to conduct inspections, and the ability to obtain necessary security clearances from Qatari authorities (the company will assist with this process).
