A leading firm in the engineering and construction project sector is seeking to hire a Project Control & Planning Engineer for a full-time, site-based role in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Job Description
The Project Control & Planning Engineer will be primarily responsible for monitoring and regulating project progress directly from the worksite. Reporting to the Project Manager, this role will be the watchful eye on schedule, resources, and costs. Key responsibilities include:
- Planning & Scheduling: Developing detailed project plans and work schedules (using software like Primavera P6 or MS Project) and ensuring all site stakeholders understand them.
- Monitoring & Tracking: Monitoring actual project progress daily/weekly in the field, comparing it against the baseline plan, and identifying any deviations or delays.
- Reporting: Generating periodic (daily, weekly, monthly) reports on project status, highlighting achievements, challenges, and potential risks for project management.
- Cost Control: Assisting in tracking costs related to site labor, materials, and equipment, and supporting the project's financial analysis.
- Change Management: Documenting any scope changes on site and assisting the management team in assessing their impact on schedule and cost.
- Field Coordination: Acting as a vital link between central planning and ground execution, coordinating with site supervisors and subcontractors to ensure schedule adherence.
- Risk Analysis: Identifying potential risks in the worksite environment that could impact schedule or cost and proposing mitigation plans.
Requirements & Qualifications
To qualify for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or any project management-related discipline).
- Experience: Proven practical experience of at least 5 years in a similar role (Planning or Project Control Engineer) with a strong emphasis on project site work. Experience in construction, infrastructure, or oil & gas projects is a significant advantage.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in project planning software (Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project) is essential.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Solid understanding of project management principles (PMI) and control methodologies.
- Personal Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) to interact with a diverse on-site team.
- Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
- The candidate must be mobile and able to work in construction site conditions.
