Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The successful Project Manager will be entrusted with managing the full lifecycle of data centre-related projects, from initial planning through to final delivery and handover. Core responsibilities will include:
- Leadership and Planning: Leading a multidisciplinary project team (engineering, construction, IT, procurement). Developing detailed project plans encompassing timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Execution Management: Directly overseeing all phases of data centre construction or upgrade, including civil works, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) installations, cooling systems, power security, and IT infrastructure deployment.
- Quality and Compliance Assurance: Ensuring all project work adheres to the highest applicable local and international quality and safety standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tiers, LEED). Guaranteeing compliance with technical specifications and contractual agreements.
- Stakeholder Management: Acting as the primary liaison between the company, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and relevant regulatory bodies. Providing regular, clear progress reports.
- Cost and Schedule Control: Meticulously monitoring project budgets and implementing cost-control measures. Ensuring project delivery within the agreed timeframe, effectively managing any delays or obstacles.
- Project Handover: Leading the final project handover process to the client, including comprehensive documentation, training, and ensuring a smooth transition to operational teams.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
To be a qualified candidate for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer) or a related field. A Master's degree or specialized project management certifications (e.g., PMP) are a significant advantage.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in managing infrastructure or construction projects, with a strong and proven focus on data centre projects. Previous experience working in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, specifically in Qatar, will be highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of data centre systems and technologies, including power and distribution systems (UPS, generators), cooling solutions (CRAC, liquid cooling), physical security systems, fibre optic networks, and design standards (TIA-942).
- Managerial Skills: Proven proficiency in project management methodologies (PMP, PRINCE2). Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Language Skills: Full professional proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantageous plus.
