Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The appointed Quantity Surveyor will perform a range of crucial tasks focused on the financial and technical management of construction projects. The core responsibilities expected for this position include:

  • Cost Preparation and Analysis: Preparing initial cost estimates and detailed budgets for construction projects at various stages, from initial design through to execution.
  • Measurement and Quantity Management: Accurately calculating and estimating the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required for the project, based on drawings and technical specifications.
  • Tender Documentation: Contributing to the preparation of tender documents, conditions, and specifications, and evaluating subcontractor bids as needed.
  • Cost Monitoring and Change Control: Tracking actual project costs against the approved budget and preparing variance reports. Managing and evaluating Variation Orders and their financial impact on the project.
  • Contractor Payments: Verifying payment claims from contractors and suppliers based on work progress, and preparing Interim Payment Certificates and the Final Account.
  • Contract Administration: Understanding and applying construction contract clauses (e.g., FIDIC), and assisting in resolving any financial disputes or claims that may arise during execution.
  • Team Collaboration: Working closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and contractors to ensure the project's financial and technical objectives are met.

Qualifications and Key Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this opportunity, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or any directly related field to quantity surveying.
  • Professional Certification: Professional certifications such as RICS or equivalent are preferred but may not be mandatory.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in a Quantity Surveyor role, preferably with contracting or consultancy firms working on medium to large-scale construction projects.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in relevant computer software, especially quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam) and advanced spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel). Good knowledge of construction methods and technical specifications.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and numerical skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Effective written and verbal communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders.
  • Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic will be a significant advantage.
