Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The appointed Rigger will be part of the technical operations team within the shipyard. The core responsibilities involve tasks related to the safe and precise lifting of heavy equipment and ship components, which are vital for construction, repair, and maintenance operations. Specifically, the role will entail:
- Preparing, inspecting, and utilizing various lifting equipment such as cranes, forklifts, overhead cranes, hoists, chains, wire ropes, and slings.
- Correctly and securely attaching and securing loads (materials, equipment, structures) using appropriate hitches and methods prior to lifting.
- Providing clear and accurate hand or radio signals to crane operators to guide the movement of loads across worksites, which may include shipbuilding areas, repair workshops, or open yards.
- Participating in loading and unloading operations of materials and equipment from trucks or vessels.
- Ensuring full compliance with all company and marine industry Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Conducting routine pre-use inspections on lifting gear and reporting any defects or damage.
- Working collaboratively with other teams such as welders, mechanics, and electricians to facilitate workflow.
- Assisting in the erection of temporary structures or scaffolding as required.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
To be eligible for this critical technical role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A certificate or diploma in a relevant technical field (e.g., Mechanics, Industrial Engineering, Maritime fields) or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven hands-on experience as a Rigger in an industrial setting, preferably within the shipbuilding/repair sector, heavy industry, oil & gas, or construction.
- In-depth knowledge of lifting techniques, types of hitches, and securing procedures for loads of various shapes and weights.
- Ability to understand basic technical drawings and plans.
- Possession of recognized safety certifications (e.g., Basic Marine Safety Awareness, Firefighting Training, First Aid) will be a significant advantage.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to work in conditions that may involve heights, confined spaces, and outdoors under Bahrain's weather.
- Strong communication skills (basic Arabic/English) for effective teamwork and understanding work instructions.
