Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The appointed Safety Inspector will be site-based and primarily responsible for ensuring a safe, compliant working environment adhering to the highest international standards and local regulations. Key duties include:
- Inspection & Monitoring: Conducting regular and systematic inspections of work sites to identify potential safety, health, and environmental hazards, ensuring compliance with the project's Safety Management Plan and all applicable regulations (e.g., Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) regulations, local Saudi laws).
- Reporting & Corrective Actions: Documenting all inspection findings, issuing detailed reports on any non-conformances or hazards, and following up on the implementation of corrective and preventive actions with contractors and various work teams.
- Awareness & Training: Promoting a strong safety culture among site personnel, providing immediate guidance on safe work practices, and participating in safety toolbox talks and briefings.
- Documentation Review: Reviewing Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Permits to Work for high-risk activities prior to commencement.
- Incident Investigation: Participating in investigations of incidents or near-misses to determine root causes and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
- Equipment Checks: Verifying that all equipment, machinery, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are used correctly and meet required specifications.
Qualifications & Essential Requirements
To be a successful candidate for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Industrial) or Science, OR a recognized diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Professional Certifications: Possession of globally recognized safety certifications, with a NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) as a minimum. Certifications such as IOSH Managing Safely or advanced credentials from OSHA or IASP are a strong advantage.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of practical experience in a safety inspection or supervisory role, with a proven track record on major construction, engineering, or industrial projects. Experience in infrastructure, oil & gas, or utilities projects is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001), Saudi and international safety regulations, and inspection procedures.
- Personal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills (Arabic and English). Ability to work under pressure, think critically, and enforce safety rules firmly while maintaining a team-oriented approach.
- Eligibility: Candidates must possess a valid residency (Iqama) in Saudi Arabia or be eligible to obtain a Saudi work visa.
