Safety Officer Job in Sohar, Oman

Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer will be stationed at a practical site, most likely within an industrial, manufacturing, or construction setting, aligning with Sohar's industrial profile. The core responsibilities will include:
- Developing & Implementing Safety Policies: Contributing to the creation, implementation, and enforcement of company-specific Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
- Conducting Risk Assessments & Inspections: Performing regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits of work areas, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and recommend preventive corrective actions.
- Training & Awareness: Organizing and delivering comprehensive training programs for all employees and contractors on safe work practices, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures.
- Incident Investigation: Leading thorough investigations into all accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes, preparing detailed reports, and recommending measures to prevent recurrence.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring all site activities and operations adhere to applicable safety regulations and the company's internal specifications.
- Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all safety activities, inspections, incidents, and training sessions. Preparing regular safety performance reports for management review.
- Safety Committees: Actively participating in safety committee meetings to promote and strengthen a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Emergency Preparedness: Assisting in the development, review, and testing of emergency response plans, including evacuation and fire drill procedures.
Qualifications & Essential Requirements
To be a successful candidate for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial) or a related scientific field. Alternatively, a recognized diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is acceptable.
- Professional Certifications: Possession of internationally recognized safety certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent is highly preferred.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in a similar role (Safety Officer / HSE Officer) within an industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Omani health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as familiarity with international standards like OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001.
- Personal Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (Arabic & English) for effective training and reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for incident investigation and risk assessment.
- Leadership skills and the ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture.
- Meticulous attention to detail in report preparation and record-keeping.
- Other Requirements: Applicants must have a valid residency permit for the Sultanate of Oman or be eligible to obtain one.
