SCADA & PLC Engineer - Asyad Drydock, Oman

Job Overview

You will be at the heart of the industrial and technical operations of one of the region's major ship repair and building facilities. The appointed engineer will play a direct role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the automation and control systems that underpin drydock operations, directly impacting project timelines and service quality.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • System Design & Development: Contribute to the design, development, and testing of new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems or upgrades to existing ones.
  • Programming & Configuration: Write, modify, and test PLC programs for various systems such as pumps, cranes, and power management systems.
  • Integration & Installation: Oversee the installation and integration of hardware and software systems, ensuring their proper communication with other facility systems.
  • Maintenance & Technical Support: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on SCADA and PLC systems. Diagnose and troubleshoot faults promptly and effectively to minimize downtime.
  • Documentation & Training: Prepare and update technical documentation and status reports. Provide essential support and training to operations and maintenance technicians.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all systems and installations comply with international standards and relevant safety regulations in the maritime and industrial sector.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control & Automation Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Work Experience: Proven hands-on experience of 3-5 years in SCADA and PLC engineering, preferably within industrial, maritime, or oil & gas environments.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in PLC programming using standard languages (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, FBD) on platforms such as Siemens (TIA Portal), Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), or Schneider.
    • Practical experience in developing and configuring SCADA systems using software like WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition, or Citect.
    • In-depth understanding of industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP).
    • Knowledge of electrical control systems, sensors, and actuators.
  • Personal Skills: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities. Capability to work under pressure. Effective communication and teamwork skills. High attention to detail and accuracy.
