Senior Accountant (Construction Industry) Job in Oman

A client of SKC Management Consulting is actively recruiting for the position of Senior Accountant, with a specific emphasis on candidates possessing extensive experience within the construction and building industry. This role presents an excellent opportunity for seasoned accounting professionals to apply their expertise in the dynamic and complex environment of construction projects within the Omani market.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant will be integrated into the finance department and will be responsible for a range of critical accounting and financial tasks that support the company's construction operations. Key expected responsibilities include:

  • Financial Accounts Management: Overseeing the preparation of periodic financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annual), ensuring their accuracy and compliance with local and international reporting standards.
  • Project Accounting: Tracking costs and revenues for individual construction projects. This involves accurate cost allocation, budget monitoring, and profitability calculation for each project.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assisting in the preparation of operational and project budgets, and providing financial forecasts based on actual progress.
  • Invoicing & Receivables Management: Supervising the client invoicing process (progress billing/certificates) and following up on accounts receivable to ensure healthy cash flow.
  • Reconciliation & Monitoring: Performing regular bank reconciliations, reconciling debtor and creditor accounts, and ensuring the accuracy of general ledger records.
  • Compliance & Audit: Ensuring all financial transactions comply with Omani tax laws and regulations, and preparing for external audits by providing necessary documentation.
  • Supervision & Guidance: The role may involve supervising and guiding accounting assistants or technicians within the department.
  • Analytical Reporting: Preparing analytical reports for senior management that illustrate the financial performance of projects and the company as a whole, highlighting areas for improvement.

Qualifications & Essential Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., CMA, CPA, ACCA) are a significant advantage.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in financial accounting, with a strong focus and proven track record within the construction or building sector. Experience in a construction project environment is a prerequisite.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics) and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
  • Specialized Knowledge: In-depth understanding of cost accounting principles, project accounting, and construction contracting mechanisms (e.g., fixed-price contracts, time-and-materials contracts).
  • Soft Skills: High analytical ability, strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and the capacity to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Language: Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is an additional advantage.

Job Location

This position is based in the Sultanate of Oman. Applicants must either be currently residing in Oman or be willing to relocate.
