Senior HSE Officer Job - Intertek Global International (Sohar, Oman)

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The Senior HSE Officer will be stationed at the company's operational site and will be primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environment. The core responsibilities for this leadership role include:

• Developing, implementing, and reviewing site-specific HSE policies, procedures, and management systems to ensure alignment with international standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001) and local Omani laws and regulations.
• Conducting regular inspections, audits, and reviews of the site, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
• Leading investigations into incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes, and developing corrective and preventive action plans to prevent recurrence.
• Designing and delivering effective training programs for all employees and contractors on safety procedures, specific job hazards, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for safety and preparing detailed periodic reports for management on HSE status and any incidents.
• Acting as the primary liaison with local regulatory authorities on all HSE-related matters.
• Promoting a positive safety culture among all team members through effective communication and motivational initiatives.
• Managing emergency response programs and plans, and organizing regular drills.
• Reviewing and assessing contractor and vendor safety risks prior to the commencement of any work on site.

Qualifications & Requirements

To qualify for this senior role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical, Mechanical, or equivalent) or in a Science field related to HSE.
• Professional Certification: A recognized professional certification in HSE such as the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) as a minimum. Certifications like NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent are a strong advantage.
• Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of practical experience in the HSE field, with a focus on industrial sites, oil & gas facilities, chemical plants, or the construction sector. Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role is essential.
• Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of international safety (OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001) and environmental (ISO 14001) management systems. Comprehensive understanding of Omani safety legislation.
• Skills: Exceptional leadership and communication skills (both verbal and written) in English; Arabic is a significant advantage. Strong analytical and report-writing abilities. Effective training and presentation skills. Ability to work under pressure and make sound, timely decisions.
