Senior Project Control & Planning Engineer in Muscat

A leading and confidential company in the Sultanate of Oman is seeking to fill the position of Senior Project Control & Planning Engineer at its headquarters in Muscat. This role represents a distinguished career opportunity for ambitious, experienced engineers to join large-scale, complex technical and engineering projects, playing a pivotal role in ensuring their success through meticulous planning and continuous monitoring.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Senior Project Control & Planning Engineer will be responsible for the vital aspects of managing the project lifecycle. He/She will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure projects are executed within the defined scope, approved schedule, and allocated budget. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and Updating Project Plans: Creating and developing detailed project plans and work schedules using specialized tools such as Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project. This involves identifying activities, sequencing them, and estimating their duration and resources.
  • Monitoring and Controlling: Continuously tracking project progress against approved baseline plans. Identifying and calculating any schedule or cost variances (SV, CV) and analyzing their root causes.
  • Reporting: Generating periodic project performance reports (e.g., weekly and monthly status reports) for senior management and stakeholders. These reports must reflect a clear picture of progress, risks, issues, and completion forecasts.
  • Risk Management: Assisting in identifying potential risks that may impact schedule or cost and participating in developing mitigation plans.
  • Change Management: Assessing the impact of change requests on the project schedule and cost and providing necessary recommendations.
  • Team Integration: Working closely with project managers, engineers, procurement, and construction teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency across all project phases.
  • Data Analysis: Using strong analytical skills to interpret project data and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be eligible for this critical role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or any related engineering discipline) from an accredited university. A postgraduate degree may be an added advantage.
  • Work Experience: Minimum 8 to 10 years of experience in project control and planning, with a focus on engineering, construction, oil & gas, energy, or major infrastructure projects. Experience must include direct hands-on work on projects valued in the multi-million dollar range.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in project planning software, especially Oracle Primavera P6. Familiarity with Microsoft Project is also essential.
    • Strong knowledge of project management principles (PMI) and best practices.
    • Excellent skills in using the Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel for complex analysis).
  • Personal Skills:
    • Exceptional analytical and deductive abilities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills in both Arabic and English.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet challenges.
    • Accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Leadership skills and the ability to train and mentor less experienced engineers.
